Many people trek to the High Country each year. People from all over the globe head up to enjoy the beautiful scenary by a wide range of methods. Be it 4wding, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Cross country skiing or Motorbiking there are many ways to enjoy the high country. Scattered through the whole high country are a large number of Huts. Build over the last 150 years by people for a number of purposes, Safety in the winter from blizzards such as some of the skiing huts, some built for Loggers to live in whilst working in the area and logging the timber as well as some built by the Cattleman to live whilst mustering cattle each year.
Each hut is unique, both in appearane, surrounds and construction. Some are easily found whilst others are tucked away, with few people actually knowing of their existance. Over the next few months we aim to visit as many huts as we can to provide both photographic and video files for people to enjoy the huts as well as waypoint and track files so you can go any enjoy them first hand yourself.
For this first 'batch' of huts we chose a simple route taking us from Merrijig around Mt Bullar and finishing up back in Mansfield. This route was taken from the Rooftop Bush Huts around Mansfield and follows its suggested route in reverse. Unfortunately we didn't make it to Fry's Hut opting to instead head south through Wren's Flat and exiting back on to the highway in Jamieson.
The Huts we have visited thus far:
